Ca2+ remodeling in aging and Alzheimers Disease

 

Aging promotes the remodeling of intracellular Ca2+ homeostasis in model of in vitro aging in cultured rat hippocampal neurons. We use this model to investigate mechanisms of Ca2+ remodeling and enhanced susceptibility to damage by excitotoxicity (glutamate), inflammation (LPS) and Alzheimer┬┤s disease (amyloid beta oligomers).
